Non ACGME Fellowship in Intensive Care

August 12, 2012

I wanted to highlight a non-ACGME fellowship training program that I know well.

The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care fellowship at the Brigham is excellent training and I know several IMGs who have matched into internal medicine following the fellowship. Other IMGs who completed the fellowship have matched in anesthesia and others in surgery. It is a one year program where you take care of patients in the Intensive Care Unit following cardiac surgery. You don’t need to have any US residency training to apply but you have to be certified by the ECFMG. I know the program and the fellows well. The fellows come from all over the world. It is excellent US clinical experience and the fellows get top notch training although they work very hard. For those of you without US clinical experience who have had trouble matching this might be just the ticket.

To apply for the non-ACGME clinical fellowship, send a letter of inquiry and a copy of your curriculum vitae to Dr. James Rawn, MD, in care of Kaitlin Mooney, Cardiothoracic Surgery Coordinator at 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115.
“Your letter of inquiry should summarize your previous clinical and research training and indicate your specific areas if interest within the fields of cardiothoracic surgery. Please specify in your letter that you are applying for a non-ACGME position.”
